What We Represent
GSS was created by two people who had an extraordinary passion for their work. They were good at it, enjoyed it and had a successful background to build upon. They gradually introduced people into the business at all levels with a similar outlook on their work.
The result was, and still is, a company built of highly motivated individuals all well experienced in their various roles, with a common objective of being thoroughly content with what they achieve from day to day and from year to year. A large part of this personal satisfaction is achieved by producing quality work in a cost effective time scale, to the full satisfaction of all parties concerned. In the vast majority of projects, we are individually and collectively proud to state that we achieve this objective.
What We Do
The name of the Company says it all. We undertake many types of structural work both below ground and above ground. Although we will undertake each aspect individually, we regularly carry out piling, underpinning, temporary support and RC works to form single and multi-storey basements. Our main areas of activity are as follows: –
- Basements – Piled & Underpinned
- Restricted Access Piling – www.gss-piling.uk
- Openings in Buildings – Concrete and Steel
- Structural Lifting and Jacking
- Groundworks – Reinforced Concrete
- Crane Base
Other areas of work include support of masonry vaults for space creation, foundations for façade retention and introduction of steel frames within existing buildings. Along with our normal range of activities, we relish the challenge of an unusual technically complex project involving intricate structural works. We work throughout the UK, but specialise in Southern England and London.
How long have we been here?
GSS was formed in 2004. Within 3 years the company achieved £7M – £8M turnover. We sub-contract very little of our works as a package to other companies. Our workforce varies from a core of around 50 personnel on site, to over 100 as the work level demands. The workforce is managed by a team of experienced, well qualified engineers and managers. The Directors are ‘hands on’ in managing the award and execution of works on site.
Turnover/Size of Project: –
GSS annual turnover varies between £5M to £8M with a combined turnover with sister company GSS Piling of circa £12M. We do not wish to grow appreciably from this level as currently the Directors and Senior Staff have direct control over all activities. To expand further would erode this ability for direct ‘hands on’ management.
The size of project varies greatly from £10K to £4M. Contracts of higher value are always considered but the relationship between commitment to a single contract and annual turnover must always be taken into account.
